Gasoline Prices Affect Music Industry and Jazz Clubs
The price of gasoline in New York City and elsewhere have had an effect on people who drive to see live jazz entertainment. The cost of simple regular gasoline is now $5.00 in some spots around New York City and elsewhere worse. In some areas people have had to cancel their vacation plans due to high gasoline prices. Opening up the reserves only is part of the solution as refineries are down due to the storm Katrina and the crude oil needs to be processed to turn it into gasoline before it is distributed to the pumps. In Germany gasoline was $6.00 a gallon for regular. Many gasoline stations had to close (go out of business) because the costs of operating the station exceeded any profits made from he sale of gasoline. Airlines will also be effected and this could put a cap on visitors who like jazz and concerts. More refineries should be built and we should become more energy independant as a nation not relying on Arab oil. Other fuels to run cars should be developed, and less expensive alternatives should be made available as substitutes for gas. For example corn oil, deep fryer oil, could made into a burning fuel to run cars. It's time we get more serious and do something about this problem which not only effects jazz concerts, music events, but everything--food.
