For Immediate Release: Contact: Marianna Hernandez 347-374-4229 Renee Flemings 917 693-2957 New York, March 22---From the Front Porch was originally performed at the Spotlight On Halloween Festival, at the Greenwich Street Theatre. Written & performed by Renee' Flemings, a life-long playwright, director, and actor, and 2004 finalist of O’Neill Playwright’s Conference. Flemings, who has written and performed at the Neighborhood Playhouse and has had several short plays presented as part of “Mortality” on stage, co-produces and writes for the IFFM documentary: Nothing But the Blues, and the instructional DVD: Wine Noir. Flemings had long dreamed to create a spectacular musical show. “For a very, very long time I’ve wanted to do a show that celebrates blues and rhythm, I really love them both as they shaped the history of life as I remember it,” said Flemings. The show stems its historic backdrop from a small Southern town Clayton, Alabama, based on Flemings own memories of growing up amidst the changes going on in the American black communities. The show does not focus on the politics of the age, however, it signifies a strange dynamic, in its portrayal of a child witnessing the changes around him/her and not understanding the concept. According to the playwright, the show is not much about the people she remembers encountering during her childhood, but more about the blues of the south, which remind her of her growing up. “The songs in the show remind me of my childhood but as I’d rather look at all of that through the lens of what was discovered watching, listening, and learning, and the songs are an expression of all of that.” Renee Flemings believes that the show will help people remember their roots, through music and share the memories of their childhood, whether good or bad, once again, with their loved ones, through the gift of music. *Critics are invited to attend the show starting April 7.
