WBGO/JAZZ 88.3-FM is pleased to announce this year’s line-up for the Spirit of Jazz concert series being held in partnership with Oris Swiss Made Watches and Tourneau, the world’s largest watch store. The concerts will be presented each Tuesday in June from 12:00 noon until 2:00 PM at the atrium of the Tourneau Time Machine, located at 57th Street @ Madison Avenue in midtown Manhattan. Concerts are free and open to the general public.

In announcing this year’s concert program, Cephas Bowles, General Manager of WBGO/JAZZ 88.3-FM said, “WBGO is exceedingly proud of the partnership we have maintained over the years with Oris Swiss Made Watches and Tourneau. It gives us great pleasure to once again kick off the summer with the great sounds of straight-ahead jazz. This music, like the Oris 2005 honoree, Frank Sinatra, is timeless.” Bowles concluded by saying, “This year’s concert artists truly embody the jazz legacy that WBGO is committed to preserving. We are pleased and proud of the ever-increasing audiences that gather at the atrium of the Tourneau Time Machine for these concerts.”

This year’s line-up for the Spirit of Jazz Concerts Series is:

Drummer, Winard Harper Sextet June 7
Pianist, Geri Allen & her Trio June 14
Pianist, Hilton Ruiz Quartet June 21
Vocalist, Vanessa Rubin & her Trio June 28

WBGO/JAZZ88.3-FM has been producing the finest in jazz concert performances for over 25 years and is the area’s only jazz station committed to promoting the appreciation and understanding of jazz through performance, education, and preservation. Late last year, New York City’s National Arts Club awarded their prestigious Medal of Honor to WBGO “for being a recognized leader in the world of public radio for the presentation of live jazz programming, including collaborations with well-known and emerging artists.” WBGO/JAZZ 88.3-FM was also acknowledged for its accustomed presence at leading NYC events such as Lincoln Center's Midsummer Night Swing, Jazz at Lincoln Center and Starry Nights at the American Museum's Rose Center, among many others. This year at the Spirit of Jazz concert series, Oris honors Frank Sinatra with the Oris Limited Edition Frank Sinatra Power Reserve Timepiece, limited to 2,090 pieces worldwide. Entry forms will be available in the downstairs gallery to enter-to-win an Oris Frank Sinatra Jazz Timepiece. The winner will be announced at the June 28th concert. Also on this day, Frank Sinatra Jr. will be holding a “Frank Sinatra Treasures” book signing. An exhibition of rare and never-before-seen Frank Sinatra jazz memorabilia will be on display in Tourneau’s downstairs gallery during June and July.

Since the beginning of its love affair with the world of jazz in 1997, Oris has created a series of beautifully designed and elegant Limited Edition watches, each one dedicated to and highlighting the careers of such jazz legends as Louis Armstrong, Lionel Hampton, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, and McCoy Tyner.

WBGO/JAZZ 88.3-FM celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2004 and serves the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area with straight-ahead jazz, blues, and award-winning news and public affairs programming. Non- commercial WBGO is supported by close to 20,000 annual members and has over 400,000 weekly listeners. WBGO also streams its broadcast signal to audiences worldwide at www.wbgo.org.
