For the Love of Jazz Marks 34th Year with Reno Concert

Pat Glancy attended the first For the Love of Jazz concert in 1974. Thirty-four years later, the Carson City resident still makes the trip to Reno for the concerts.

“This is one of the best investments I've ever made in my life," said Glancy, 77.

Glancy was among dozens at the local organization's annual meeting and concert Sunday at the Sands Regency Casino & Hotel.

The concert featured renowned musicians from Reno and California and the winner of the first vocal competition.

“We want to promote the understanding and the love of jazz and music," President Bob Peterson said.

At Sunday's concert, vocalist Michele Weir of Los Angeles, guitarist Bruce Foreman of Los Angeles, bassist Hans Halt of Reno and drummer Andy Heglund of Reno played several songs, ranging from jazz standards like “Body and Soul" to a new arrangement of “The Sound of Music."

“This is fun," Weir said between songs. “It's fun to get a chance to sing in this kind of concert, when the audience is so responsive."
