Bill Bruford
After a 40-year career spanning some of the greatest art rock groups and his own inimitable jazz ensembles, drummer/composer/bandleader announced his retirement in January 2009 (see: Veteran Drummer Bill Bruford Retires from Public Performance). To celebrate his career and provide perspective on it, he has released an autobiography and two compilations of his music--the single-disc The Winterfold Collection 1978-1986, which covers his more electric work, and double-disc The Summerfold Collection 1987-2008, which addresses his more jazz-centric work.

Bill Bruford: The Autobiography (Jawbone Press, 2009) was published yesterday, March 1, 2009, and AAJ is now featuring an exclusive excerpt from this highly informative and entertaining book, titled Chapter 10: Is it different, being in jazz?. Read this engaging excerpt at AAJ today!

AAJ Managing Editor John Kelman has also written an in-depth review of the book, also published today at AAJ.

AAJ continues to bring you the most extensive and comprehensive coverage of jazz on the web. Check out the excerpt from Bill Bruford: The Autobiography and book review at AAJ today!
