Eric Alexander Jazz Clinic & Concert Series at Long Island University - Brooklyn Campus Tue. Oct. 2nd from 4:00 - 6:00 PM

On Tuesday, October 2, 2007 from 4:00 - 6:00 PM, tenor saxophonist Eric Alexander will perform as part of Long Island University's Jazz Clinic Series.

The clinics are FREE and OPEN to the general public. They take place on various Tuesdays, from 4:00 - 6:00 PM, in room H-106 of the Humanities Building on Long Island University's Brooklyn Campus.

The series features musicians and music professionals with extraordinary links to jazz history in addition to being outstanding in their own right.

Eric Alexander (born 1968), known for his sophisticated hard bop and post-bop style, began as a classical musician, studying alto saxophone at Indiana University in 1986. He soon switched to jazz and the tenor saxophone, however, and transferred to William Paterson University.

His first achieved fame by finishing second behind Joshua Redman at the 1991 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition. He was quickly signed and began recording albums. Influenced primarily by Dexter Gordon and George Coleman, Alexander began received his early on the experience working with Chicago notables pianist Jon Weber and drummer Joseph Farnsworth.

Today, Eric is one of the most sought after tenor saxophonists on New York jazz scene. He has appeared on close to 70 albums, and his discography as a leader include: New York Calling (1992), Straight Up (1992), Up, Over & Out (1993), Full Range (1994), Eric Alexander in Europe (1995), Two of a Kind (1996), Mode for Mabes (1998), Solid! (1998), Man with a Horn (1999), Alexander the Great (1999), The First Milestone (2000), The Second Milestone (2001), Summit Meeting (2002), It's All in the Game (2006), Temple of Olympic Zeus (2007).

The campus is located at the corner of Flatbush Avenue Extension and Dekalb Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn. It is accessible to all major bus and subway routes and Long Island Railroad.

The Brooklyn Campus music department offers programs leading to a B.A. in Traditional Music Studies, a B.F.A. degree in Jazz Studies and a B.S. in Music Education in Urban Schools.
