Matt JorgensenTattooed by Passion
Inspired by the paintings of his late father-in-law, the prominent abstract-impressionist artist Dale Chisman, drummer Matt Jorgensen has created a recording of all original works drawing influence directly from Chisman paintings, his home city of Denver, his life-long friends, and his constant reinvention as an artist. To properly reflect the power and expanse of Chisman's pieces, Jorgensen, along with his longtime collaboratorstrumpeter Thomas Marriott and saxophonist Mark Taylorexpands his own palette from previous recordings, exploring broad new textures and musical landscapes aided by Corey Christiansen's earthy guitar work, bassist Dave Captein, and orchestrations for string quartet. Chad McCullough & Michal VanoucekThe Sky Cries
Seattle trumpeter Chad McCullough joins with Slovakian pianist Michal Vanoucek for an album of varied sonic landscapes and ever-changing moods. The Sky Cries follows up on concerts in The Hague (Michal's home for the last decade) and the Pacific Northwest, where together they molded their music into something distinctly their ownblending modern jazz ('Where The Sky Cries' and 'Blue In Breed') with European influences ('Time-lapse' and 'Krasna') and an openness that is decidedly Northwest ('Urban Grassland' and 'Soliloquy for D.G.'). They're joined by saxophonist Mark Taylor, Dave Captein on bass, and Matt Jorgensen on drums. Visit chadmccullough.com for more info.
