Downtown Berkeley, CA Jazz Festival Announced

JUPITER Presents the 3rd Annual Downtown Berkeley Jazz Festival (DBJF), Wednesday, August 22 through Sunday, August 26, Made Possible By the Downtown Berkeley Association. The summer festival celebrates music from around the world, presenting over 45 events in 13 different Downtown Berkeley, CA venues including Jupiter, Anna's Jazz Island, Jazzschool, Shattuck Down Low, La Note, Bobby G's Pizzeria, Caltopia, GAIA Arts, BART Plaza, Berkeley Public Library and the Farmer's Market. Music, poetry, dance, and cuisine are featured throughout the Downtown, promoting Berkeley's unique businesses and contributing to a more vibrant downtown community.

Expanding on the eclectic nature of Downtown Berkeley, this year's DBJF features a wide range of artists and events including Winard Harper Sextet, Ray Obiedo & The Urban Latin Jazz Project featuring Pete Escovedo, Zadell, Kim Nalley, E.W. Wainwright's African Roots of Jazz, Marcus Shelby Jazz Orchestra, John Calloway and Diaspora, Myra Melford, Diasappear Incompletely, The Snake Trio, Erik Jekabson Quartet, Darren Johnston Quintet, Kenny Washington, Mark Levine & Byzance, Brass Mafia, Natasha Miller, DJ Delon, Laurie Antonioli Group, Hitomi Oba Group, Terrence Brewer, BEEP, Bill Ortiz Band, Loose Wig Jazz Quartet The Sonando Project - Latin Side of Stevie Wonder, AguaLibre, Wil Blades and Eddie Marshall, Hot Club Pacific, Kid Beyond, Sila and the Afro-Funk Experience, Third Annual All-Star Percussion Show, and many more. Free outdoor performances are held at BART Plaza and the Berkeley Farmer's Market. The Berkeley City College and Half Price Books will present poetry and GAIA Arts will host a Poetry Slam.
