New York, NY -- May is magnificent as the month kicks-off with the Essentially Ellington Festival which flows into Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola for a full week with the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra featuring Ernie Andrews, followed by AFTER HOURS sets by the Essentially Ellington Alumni All-Stars. Week two in May brings in a gathering of Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra alumni including: Todd Williams, Marcus Roberts, Reginald Veal and Herlin Riley. For one night only, May 15, Andre Previn does a 7:30pm solo piano set, followed by the 9:30pm set with Bucky Pizzarelli & Jay Leonhart. Then, the Joe Lovano Nonet with Hank Jones takes the stage May 17-20 for a special showcase. New York's house band, The Bill Charlap Trio with Peter Washington and Kenny Washington close out the month of headliners.
UPSTARTS! Every Monday night, the UPSTARTS! series features the best area college jazz bands with incredible up-and-coming talent, featuring Charles Tolliver directing the New School Orchestra on April 30th, then shining the Monday spotlight on Canadian talent entitled: Quebec Jazz. Night owls can take advantage of our late-night jams for just $10 with the AFTER HOURS sets including the Dan Nimmer Trio, the Joe Magnarelli Quartet, Aaron Diehl & Dominick Farinacci, and the Bill Goodwin Quartet. Our great Student Rates are: Headliners $15 (Tue.-Sun.), UPSTARTS! $10 (Mondays), AFTER HOURS $5 (Tue.-Sat.).
