Diana Krall to perform at TD Canada Trust Downtown Jazz Festival in Toronto
Fresh off the heels of a win at the Junos for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year, TD Canada Trust Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival is proud to announce a special appearance by Canada’s Jazz Queen, Diana Krall, for two nights only.
Singer, songwriter, and pianist Diana Krall has been enthralling audiences since the release of her first album, Stepping Out. Now, almost 15 years later she has secured her place as one of the top selling jazz vocalists. With two Grammy awards and a previous Juno in her awards collection, Diana has proven that straight-ahead jazz has a place in the mainstream consciousness.
Born in Nanaimo, British Columbia, Diana began studying piano at the age of 4, and by 15 she was already performing standards at a local restaurant/bar. After attending the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Diana would go on to work with legendary greats such as producer Tommy LiPuma (whose work includes Barbra Streisand, Natalie Cole and George Benson), bassist Ray Brown and pianist Jimmy Rowles.
The 1999 release of When I Look In Your Eyes became the first jazz album at the Grammys to be nominated for Album of the Year in over 25 years. Diana’s following CD, The Look of Love, topped the Billboard charts and went quadruple platinum in Canada. With the release of her latest, The Girl in the Other Room, Diana crosses into new territory interpreting modern standards and reveals her talent as a songwriter.
The TD Canada Trust Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival will once again be the highlight of summer in the city, this year running from June 24 to July 3, 2005. Bringing cool music to hot summer days and nights, the festival will present more than 350 concerts over ten days on more than 40 different stages.
