Dafnis Prieto Performance Schedule Fall 2007

Just nominated for a Latin Grammy Award as “Best New Artist," Cuban- born and New York-based drummer Dafnis Prieto will present his music across the US in a series of fall performances. The tour will kick off at the Jazz Standard in New York with two nights each featuring his Absolute Quintet and the new Dafnis Prieto Sextet.

The sextet's performances will include a suite of recent Prieto compositions commissioned by Chamber Music America through its New Works Grant. Entitled “The Emotion Series: Taking the Soul for a Walk," these pieces will be recorded in the following week for a new album release in early 2008.

From October 22nd through November 4th, the Absolute Quintet will make its debut tour of the Western US, performing music from its Grammy-nominated debut album (Zoho Music) as well as many new compositions. In Los Angeles, the group will premiere “Five Pieces Pieces Pieces Five," commissioned by the Jazz Bakery through a Meet the Composer grant.
