The Iridium Jazz Club is pleased to present the Cyrus Chestnut Trio. The Baltimore born pianist first received his musical training from his father, McDonald Chestnut, at age five. After studies at the Peabody Preparatory Conservatory and the Berklee School of Music his professional career began with John Hendricks (1986-88), Terence Blanchard and Donald Harrison (1988-1990), and Wynton Marsalis (1991). In September 1991 he became Betty Carter's pianist, staying with her until 1993. A thoroughly schooled musician with a formidable two-handed technique whose approach blends aspects of Art Tatum, Bud Powell, Ahmad Jamal, Wynton Kelly, and McCoy Tyner. Cyrus Chestnut is an excellent improviser, composer, arranger and pianist who offers his listeners joy, inspiration.
