Travelling all the way from Budapest, Hungary, vocalist Ágnes Lakatos and bassist Tibor Csuhaj-Barna will be on a U.S. tour and stopping in Chicago for a performance at the Checkout in Uptown on Thursday, July 2nd at 7:30PM. Joining them will be the Chicago-based Amos Gillespie on saxophone, Gustavo Cortinas on drums and Carl Kennedy on piano.
The quintet will be featuring originals and standards in a unique cross-pollination of styles where Hungarian folk intersects with the history of American jazz. Imagine a dance feel infused into modern jazz, with uncommon time signatures and exotic gypsy scales, all mixed into a cross-cultural recipe that immediately transports you overseas.
