Chamber Music America has created two new grant programs for jazz ensembles and presenters, New Works: Encore and CMA/FACE French-American Jazz Exchange. Both programs are part of CMA’s national service to the jazz and chamber music communities.
The goal of the New Works: Encore Program is to bring new audiences to jazz compositions commissioned through New Works: Creation and Presentation Program. This new program aims to take the works to venues beyond traditional clubs, and is made possible with funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. New Works: Encore Program provides grants to presenters and festivals, helping them present the commissioned works, as performed by the composers and their ensembles. Ensembles themselves may also apply.
The grant range is from $5,000 to $10,000, and applications must be received at CMA’s office no later than September 15, 2005.
The CMA/ FACE French-American Jazz Exchange was created by Chamber Music America, the French Embassy, and French American Cultural Exchange (FACE), with the aim of fostering collaborative projects between French and American jazz artists. Activities within its scope may include composition, touring, recording, and audience development, in either France or the U.S. The program welcomes collaborations with artists in genres that may fall outside the scope of traditional jazz, like world, electronic, and contemporary classical music.
Funding is available up to $10,000, and the application deadline is October 14, 2005.
