Carmichael's Dinner located in Jamaica, Queens New York has closed. This special dinner offered live jazz entertainment in their basement on Wednesday evenings. The owner of this venue KING CARMICHAEL has been hospitalized for failing health, and running the long established restaurant and jazz club was a strain and became very difficult to run because of all of the responsibilities involved in the management of the business. Carmichael's is known for promoting not only jazz but such Gospel groups the The Swanee Quartet (from Augusta, Georgia)., and various other groups. According to information available to me, no specific date has been set for reopening. This could be 1 or 2 months, if King Carmichael's health improves--or possible permanent closing which will mean a severe loss to the community and senior citizens who have supported the jazz program on Wednesdays. Carmichael's is located at 117-08 Guy R. Brewer Boulevard, Jamaica, New York 11434 and the telephone number is: (718) 723-6908. Many great jazz pianists, and musicians have played there. To name a few, Dave Carter, Ed Stoute, Hank Edmonds, Stan Hope, Weldon Irvine, Roy Meriweather, Hank Johnson, others. If the club reopens, or more information becomes available it will be announced here!
