BORN IN NEW ORLEANS: HISTORY YOU CAN DANCE TO…
MAKE IT FUNKY!
Music Documentary That Tells The Story of Black American Music
“One thing is certain: The film with the best soundtrack of the year already has been established.” MAKE IT FUNKY!" has that honor down cold.” -Hollywood Reporter
ON DVD SEPT. 27 CULVER CITY, CALIF. (September 5, 2005) MAKE IT FUNKY!, the documentary that features iconic names from rhythm 'n blues and funk, including Earl Palmer, Snooks Eaglin, Bonnie Raitt and the Neville Brothers, along with an enthusiastic tribute by rock hero Keith Richards, arrives on DVD Sept. 27 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE) at the suggested retail price of $24.96.
MAKE IT FUNKY!, a history lesson you can dance to, had an ambitious premise in its development -- to tell the story of how Black Music in America became the heartbeat of all American popular music and influenced music around the world. And it is also a lesson that is going into 50,000 classrooms.
Director and Producer Michael Murphy, along with his creative team, Cilista Eberle (producer) and Daniel Roth (executive producer) chose a novel and entertaining style for their music lesson: complicated, expensive and ultimately very rewarding. They pulled together more than 80 musicians and filmed them performing 50 songs that trace the evolution of New Orleans funk from traditional jazz and brass bands, to piano blues, rhythm & blues, and classic rock & roll guitar riffs.
MAKE IT FUNKY! travels into the streets, the bars, the cemeteries and the recording studios of New Orleans, capturing not only a musical portrait of the city but also a musical culture.
SYNOPSIS:
Rollicking piano. Infectious horns. Hypnotic drum beats. Rocking guitar licks. Put them all together and you’ve got the exuberant sound of New Orleans music! Join a world-class lineup of artists, including the Neville Brothers, Allen Toussaint, Irma Thomas, Lloyd Price, Bonnie Raitt and Keith Richards, as they slip, slide, strut and glide their way through the spicy gumbo of sounds that took over the world, influencing the course of popular music for over a century.
From “Fire On The Bayou” to “Let The Good Times Roll” MAKE IT FUNKY! is a raucous tribute to the musical heritage of the Crescent City, chock full of blazing performances, fiery archival footage and red-hot conversations with the remarkable men and women who created it. Let good times roll!
