Bogey Vujkov, Seattle Jazz Pianist, Releases Debut CD, "Comin' Up For Air"
Yugoslavian-born pianist and composer Bogey Vujkov (pronounced voo-ey kov), has just released his debut CD, Comin' Up For Air. The CD features Clipper Anderson on acoustic and 5-string electric bass, Terry Aspiras on keyboards, Jay Douglas on drums, and Dajari Makena on percussion. Of the 13 tracks on the CD, 11 were written by Bogey. The CD was produced by Bogey and Tom Pfaeffle at The Tank Studio in Black Diamond. Pfaeffle was the recording and mixing engineer, and Steve Smith was executive producer. Comin' Up For Air is available online at CDBaby.com. These days, Bogey teaches piano to Seattle's VIPs at his studio in the Sherman Clay store in downtown Seattle, where he is the Steinway Jazz Artist in Residence. Among his students are CEOs of major corporations, software and banking executives, real estate developers, high-powered attorneys, and pilots of major airlines.
Born into a family of musicians, Bogey gave his first solo classical performance at the age of seven in his hometown of Belgrade. His family fled Yugoslavia and settled in the U.S., where Bogey's passion for piano grew. Numerous scholarships and grants enabled him to continue his studies at Arizona State University, the University of Wisconsin, North Texas State University, and the Julliard School of Music. Until he joined the Army, Bogey was a classical musician, but while in the 4th Army Band, he discovered a passion for jazz. Through the years, Bogey has played with the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, at numerous clubs in the Dallas/Houston area, on Israel National Television and Israel Radio, at Seattle's major concert venues--including the old and new Jazz Alley, Tula's, and Benaroya Hall, at the Bellevue Jazz Festival, and in the Seattle Art Museum's “Art of Jazz" series. He has worked as a studio musician, a house band director for Sun Line Cruises, music director for the Jerusalem Hilton and Marriott Hotels, and as a member of the Paramount Theatre's big band orchestra.
