The Grand Concourse south of 161st St is the Bronx Walk of Fame which honors Bronx-born or bred personalities whose work and contributions have made a difference throughout the world. EACH INDUCTEE GETS A PERMANENT STREET NAMED AFTER THEM. The award is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a Bronxite.

BOBBY SANABRIA
Grammy-nominated master drummer, percussionist, composer, arrnager, recording artist, producer and educator, Sanabria has performed with a veritable WHO'S WHO in the world of jazz and Latin music, as well as with his own critically acclaimed ensembles. His unique ability to authentically staddle all forms of jazz - swing, be-bop, hard bop, big band, and fusion - along with his command of hardcore salsa, Afro-Cuban and Brazilian jazz place him in a catgory all his own.
Sanabria was born and raised in the “Fort Apache" section of the South Bronx. Inspired and encouraged by Tito Puente, he “got serious" and attended Boston's Berklee College of Music from 1975 to 1979 obtaining a Bachelor of Music degree and receiving the Faculty Association Award.
His most critically praised work has been with the famed Mario Bauza' Afro-Cuban Jazz Orchestra and his own ensembles--Ascension, Quarteto Ache' and his 19 piece big band. With Bauza', he recorded three CD's, two of which were nominated for Grammy's and with his own big band he recorded Live & In Clave in 2001 on the Arabesque label which was nominated for a mainstream Grammy. Collectively they are considered to be the definitive works of the Afro-Cuban big band jazz tradition.
Sanabria's latest recording, Quarteto Ache!, on the ZOHO label, documents his virtuosity in a small group setting and was hailed a “classic" by Modern Drummer magazine. He was voted “Percussionist of the Year" for 2005 by the readers of DRUM! magazine.
