An innovator in the fusion of R&B and pop, Baldwin has indeed been a staple on the contemporary jazz scene for nearly two decades.
Perhaps best known for his collaborations, Baldwin has worked with more major names in the biz than one can reasonably list: Will Downing, Grover Washington, Jr., Marion Meadows, George Benson, Lenny White, Jeff Kashiwa, Chieli Minucci, Gerald Albright and Chuck Loeb, to name a few.
Being that jazz is an oral tradition, it seems only natural that such a prolific performer would choose to record his musical diary on DVD with Memoirs of the Hudson. Fans can watch the master craftsman at work in the place he loves the best, live performance, featuring the Bob Baldwin/Marion Meadows classic, South Beach," featuring Meadows on saxophone. Meadows also does a version of Body Rhythm" that is subtle and beautiful.
In the DVD, Baldwin also fuses his NY Latin/Brazilian world music roots, featuring Chembo Corniel from Puerto Rico on congas/bongos and the great Cafe Da Silva from Brazil on Brazilian percussion, which comes alive on the Baldwin composition Cafezinho."
