(CHICAGO / DENVER - 20 September 2005) BluJazz Productions Founder & President Greg Pasenko has retained MFA – Mitchell Feldman Associates to promote the label’s recordings to mainstream and college radio as well as the national jazz press. The 7-year-old Chicago-based jazz label and provider of professional services for jazz artists has built a catalogue of over 30 titles and a roster that includes guitarist Bruce Forman, violinist Diane Delin and vocalist Janice Borla, among others.
The arrangement starts immediately with the promotion by MFA of BluJazz’s two newest releases, the hard bop session ”Crossroads” featuring a sextet led by trombonist Tim Coffman (BJ3340), and “Save Us” by the Dan Cray Trio (BJ3343) which both have street dates of Sept. 27th and radio add dates of Sept. 26th. Pianist Cray’s last CD, “No One,”, peaked at #21 on the JazzWeek chart and # 13 at CMJ and was a Top-10 jazz release on WBEZ in Chicago in 2003. Coffman’s CD features the three-horn front line featuring himself, tenor and soprano saxophonist Mark Colby (whose last CD as a leader “Tenor Reference” – peaked at #16 at JazzWeek) and Vanguard Jazz Orchestra member Scott Wendholt on trumpet. Upcoming BluJazz releases include recordings by trumpeter Scott Anderson’s Nina Quintet, guitarist/vocalist Greg Pasenko, vocalist Janice Borla, and the Mike Frost Project.
Denver-based MFA is run by veteran jazz publicist and journalist Mitchell Feldman, who expanded his activities to include radio promotion services in April 2004. MFA also handles radio promotion for the Colorado-based jazz labels Capri Records and Synergy Music and its current PR projects include coordinating national publicity for the CD “It Is Written" by Peter Apfelbaum and the New York Hieroglyphics (ACT Music/HighNote) and media relations for the 10th Anniversary Season of The Jazz Gallery in New York from September through December 2005. In August 2005 Feldman was named Director of North American Operations for the British jazz label Dune Music (Soweto Kinch, Jazz Jamaica, Denys Baptiste, Abram Wilson) for whom he has been providing radio promotion, publicity and marketing services since breaking the label in the US in September 2004.
“After putting my own career on hold to build the label for the past seven years, I felt it was the right time to start performing again,” Pasenko explained. “This meant I needed to find that right person who understands the changing tides of the jazz music business and the new paradigms needed to assist the growing ranks of wonderful independent jazz artists. After meeting Mitchell at this year’s Jazz Week Summit, I knew that I had found the right person and organization for Blujazz to partner with.”
