Maybe I am crazy or have been lobotimized but I am 26 years old and really cannot recall the last time I saw a jazz album break the top 10 on the Billboard charts. The jazz medium is not a single-heavy medium. It seems that music sales of late are very dependent on a radio smash. Just one joint to blast the whole thing off regardless of whether an album provides a top quality consistent ride from start to finish. Where are the jazz fans? Do they belong solely in the aging population? Is jazz more of a slow burn infection that gets around more through word of mouth rather than promotions and marketing? If so why? Maybe Wynton Marsalis should cook up a ringtone...something....I guess recording artists make most of their money by touring but still...
An AAJ reminder: Live Nation is owned by Clear Channel
I rest my case.
