Since launching September 1st, Bill Shoemaker's Point of Departure: an online music journal has been acclaimed by media outlets in the US and Europe for its strong content and informed opinions about jazz and other forms of uncompromising music.

Issue 2 of Point of Departure launches November 1st.

Issue 2 features an interview with pianist Alexander von Schlippenbach on the eve of the 40th anniversary of Globe Unity Orchestra. An extensive essay traces the work of composer George Russell (The 80th Birthday Concert CD is also reviewed in Issue 2). Tenor saxophonist Ellery Eskelin answers 20 questions about life on the road in Travellin' Light. Moment's Notice contains 20 reviews of CDs by artists ranging from Charlie Parker to Evan Parker. The Circle with a Hole in the Middle revisits a vintage LP, From Rag Time to No Time by Beaver Harris and the 360 Degree Music Experience. The Page One essay looks at jazz getting Right On again in the face of the Iraq War. And, The Uh Uh Uhs (the name is taken from a Steve Lacy tune) features commentaries on current music criticism.
