The 3rd Annual Downtown Berkeley Jazz Festival (DBJF), running Wednesday, August 22 through Sunday, August 26, presents Beyond The Music - the Jazz Photography of Stuart Brinin, Monday, August 6 through Sunday, September 30 at the Berkeley Public Library. Brinin will present an exhibition of his work that spans over twenty years documenting the local and international jazz scene. The exhibit will include photos of Berkeley luminaries Peter Apfelbaum, Benny Green, Charlie Hunter, and Joshua Redman along with a who's who of jazz's greatest artists. Brinin will host an Artist's Talk on Sunday August 19, at 1:00pm to share some background and technical information about producing the photographs in this exhibition. He also will share personal stories of the artists portrayed. A question and answer session will follow the presentation.
Stuart Brinin has been documenting the jazz world through his lens for over 20 years. His work has been published in the New York Times, Boston Globe, Village Voice, Rolling Stone, as well as a number of other major publications. Stuart is currently a contributing photographer to JazzTimes, JAZZIZ, and Living Blues magazines. He is the house photographer for Yoshi's in Oakland, CA.
