BET Jazz To Sponsor Summer Jazz Festivals in the U.S.

BET Jazz: The 24-Hour Jazz Channel announces festival sponsorship initiatives with major jazz festivals in the United States, from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day. Known for its long-running success in sponsoring and presenting festivals in the Caribbean from such exotic locations as St. Lucia, Barbados, Anguilla, Bermuda, the Cayman and Turks and Caicos Islands, BET Jazz continues its outreach to some popular jazz festivals stateside, such as the Atlanta Jazz Festival; JVC Jazz Festivals in Miami Beach, FL; New York, NY; Chicago, IL; and Concord, CA; J&R Music World Downtown Jazz Festival in New York City; and the Chicago Jazz Festival.

2005 Atlanta Jazz Festival (Memorial Day Weekend) - May 27-30
The 2005 Atlanta Jazz Festival is regarded as one of the country's largest free jazz festivals and according to Mayor Shirley Franklin, “The festival was formed to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of our city and has blossomed into a celebration of our nation's contribution to human expression." The 28th annual event takes place Memorial Day Weekend, Friday, May 27 to Monday, May 30 at restaurants, clubs, museums, parks, churches, symphony halls, bookstores and department stores all over metro-Atlanta. Headliners include: Latin Jazz All-Stars featuring Hilton Ruiz and Dave Valentin; Benny Golson Quartet; Andy Bey; Sonny Fortune; and Carmen Lundy. JVC Jazz Festival, Miami Beach, FL - June 1-5
Started in 2000, the JVC Jazz Festival Miami Beach is a five-day festival that takes place in venues throughout the culturally vibrant music scene of South Beach. Main hall performances take place at the 2,700-seat Jackie Gleason Theater. In addition, smaller concerts are presented at various locations including the Lincoln Theatre, the Van Dyke Café, Jazid and at outdoors on Lincoln Road and the 12th Street Beach. Headliners this year include: Portrait of Jaco, Celebrating the life and music of Jaco Pastorius, with Othello and the JP Factor and Jeff Berlin Trio; Claudia Acuna; and David “Fathead" Newman with John Hicks, Rudy Petschauer & Don Wilner. JVC Jazz Festival, NYC - June 13-26
Considered one of the most prestigious jazz festivals in the world, the JVC Jazz Festival New York is a two-week jazz celebration that fills New York City's premiere concert halls, intimate clubs, parks, schools and museums. Started in 1972 by George Wein as the Newport Jazz Festival New York, this festival has been sponsored by JVC since 1984 and has become a New York institution. JVC Jazz Festival, Chicago - July 21-23
The JVC Jazz Festival Chicago is a three-day festival held in July that showcases an eclectic mix of artists in one of America's musical capitals. Headline performances are held at the Skyline Stage at Navy Pier located on Lake Michigan, the only performance pavilion built on Chicago's lakefront. JVC Jazz Festival, Concord, CA - August 20
Held at the exquisite Chronicle Pavilion in the scenic foothills of Mount Diablo located 28 miles northeast of San Francisco, the JVC Jazz Festival Concord is the Bay Area's largest annual smooth jazz event. J&R Music World Downtown Jazz Festival, NYC - August 21-23
Joe and Rochelle Friedman, the J&R of the Festival name, are two jazz fans that operate the famed Park Row J&R Music and Computer World stores across the street from the park. They have provided performances from the top names in jazz live in the Park since 1995. Herbie Hancock, Branford Marsalis and Sonny Rollins have all played for this crowd. This summer's program, from August 21-23, will feature concerts by Marcus Johnson, Ricky Fante, and Everette Harp.

Chicago Jazz Festival (Miles Ahead, Inc) - Sept 2-5
The Chicago Jazz Festival fills Labor Day Weekend with inspiring performances by local musicians as well as international artists.
