BET Jazz: The 24-Hour Jazz Channel presents a new fall season of original programming that kicks off on October 27 with the fourth season of Journey With Jazz At Lincoln Center. The exciting programming continues with new episodes of Studio Jams, SOLOS: The Jazz Sessions, Montreal Jazz Festival, Non-Stop Hits and Jazz Legends.
Journey With Jazz At Lincoln Center - 60-minute episodes beginning October 27
Artistic Director Wynton Marsalis continues the exploration into the vibrant intersection of jazz and its infusion with the visual arts during the fourth season of this hour-long weekly series. Thirteen new episodes will include a mix of concerts and documentaries, including the music of renowned saxophonist Joe Lovano; a performance and interview with legendary pianist Marian McPartland; behind the scenes with drummer Terri Lyne Carrington; and legendary jazz trombone masters Ron Westray and Wycliffe Gordon. Meet the men in the world's finest jazz orchestra with the two-part Jazz At Lincoln Center Profiles. Enjoy a rare interview with one of the world's finest drummers, Louis Hayes. Witness a stimulating conversation as a divergent panel including former president Bill Clinton, Charlie Rose and Wynton Marsalis discuss the place of Jazz in today's society on Jazz Talk: An Open Discussion. Examine the vibrant intersection of Jazz And Art with Romare Bearden's jazz-inspired work. The Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra takes their special magic to the most musical of countries in On the Road With the JALC in Brazil Parts 1 & 2. Enjoy a thrilling solo New York City performance from pianist Benny Green, and a compelling solo piano performance by the man who many jazz aficionados put high on their must-see list, Cyrus Chestnut.
GRAMMY Goes To Schools - 60-minute episodes beginning October 27
The Gibson/Baldwin GRAMMY High School Jazz Ensembles program identifies and rewards talented high school singers and instrumentalists from all over North America. Students selected to be in the ensembles meet in the GRAMMY Awards host city for 10 days leading up to the telecast. The ensembles perform for GRAMMY nominees, participate in master classes, perform at renowned jazz clubs and attend the GRAMMY Awards. As a result of this highly acclaimed GRAMMY in the Schools" educational program, universities offer scholarships to many participating ensemble members.
Studio Jams - 60-minute episodes beginning October 31
An inside look at making music and many of the players that are working with each other for the first time. Each episode features a diverse group of accomplished jazz and blues musicians gathered together in a recording studio for the sole purpose of creating fresh, new music. Studio Jams will include Carlos Alomar, Bobby Lyle, Nick Colionne, Terence Blanchard, Jason Miles, Michael Wolff, Jaared, Dave Koz, Spyro Gyra, Jonathan Butler and Nnenna Freelon.
SOLOS: The Jazz Sessions - 60-minute episodes beginning the week of October 31
Spotlighting unaccompanied performances by some of the legends and bright young stars of the jazz world, SOLOS offers viewers front row seats for an intimate and unique jazz experience. Featuring complete musical pieces, insightful interviews and behind-the-scenes footage, episodes will showcase an exciting and dynamic variety of jazz styles - from the blues and boogie-woogie to bebop and experimental. SOLOS artist lineup will include: Brad Mehldau, Joe Lovano, Charlie Hunter, James Blood Ulmer, Jacky Terrasson, Andrew Hill, Cyro Baptista, Kevin Breit, Bill Frisell, Phil Dwyer, Paul Plimley, Michael Kaeshammer and Mike Murley.
Rounding out the fall season lineup: highlights from Montreal Jazz Festival. This ongoing festival continues to bring to the stage in Montreal the best jazz has to offer.
