Bernell's loyalties and DNA are rooted here in an environment that feels like the soul-funk of Herbie Hancock's Headhunters, but with a nice blending of the groove of Grover Washington.

Bernell dropped his new single Don't Know Why" featuring vocalist Jazzmine James on May 28th. This new release entitled Typewriter is expressed in R&B, funk and fusion.
I am 26 years old at the time of the release of my first ambitious project, Typewriter. At this age, I have been playing saxophone for 16 years, piano for 20 years, and have been a working musician for 7 years. As my musical journey progresses, I find myself straying further and further away from the original goals I set when I started in the business. What began as a pursuit for sustainable income by playing in studio bands, musical theater pits, and low-paying jazz clubs, turned into a passion for creating music that can reach and touch the masses.
Typewriter showcases this pivotal moment in my career, where I’ve begun to embrace my identity as an artist. The title of my album is a metaphor for “creator”; apart from ‘Don’t Know Why,’ written by Jazmine James, I have written, orchestrated, and arranged every song on this project. Each song on the album draws inspiration across genres of jazz, R&B, and funk, showcasing my versatility in instrumental styles and my ability to weave together diverse musical influences.
Notwithstanding, I am not the star of the project—the music is. And I am proud to be the artist bringing this vision to life." —Bernell Jones II
