Bela Fleck Jingle All the Way
 |
Banjo virtuoso Bela Fleck and his Flecktones bandmates - Victor Wooten, Futureman and Jeff Coffin - are currently touring the U.S. in support of Jingle All The Way (Rounder), one of the best-reviewed holiday records of the year. This week, the album hit #1 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart, following two Grammy nominations for “Best Pop Instrumental Album" and “Best Country Instrumental Performance" (for “Sleigh Ride").
Produced by Fleck, Jingle All The Way is the first holiday record of the Flecktones 20-year career and features Tuvan throat singers, longtime collaborator Edgar Meyer and klezmer king Andy Statman. Catch Bela Fleck & the Flecktones on Late Night with Conan O'Brien December 22.
“This one will make any inattentive holiday party guests sit up and take notice." - Los Angeles Times
“Growling Tuvan throat singing takes over 'Jingle Bells.' 'Silent Night' becomes modal jazz with abstruse harmonies. 'The 12 Days of Christmas' zigzags through a maze of meter shifts and key changes (perhaps 'The 12 Tones of Christmas'?). And Tchaikovsky's 'Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies' pings its melody in harmonics from Bela Fleck's banjo... the song choices are eclectic... and the arrangements even more so. Give these musicians a musical parameter and they'll toy with it." - The New York Times
