The Basie Centennial Ball - The Music, The People, The Dance
In celebration of Count Basie's Centennial, his most trusted composer and arranger, Frank Foster will lead his 12-piece Swing Plus Band along with several veteran Count Basie Orchestra members and other jazz legends on a special evening that celebrates the music and the dance that swings. As it was Basie who established swing as one of jazz's predominant styles, no celebration of his music would be complete with out the dance.
On October 9, 2004 at Columbia University's Roone Arledge Auditorium, join jazz legends Junior Mance, Earl May, Benny Powell, Dennis Rowland, Clark Terry, Frank Wess, Joe Wilder and Irene Reid as they come together to reunite Basie's music with the dance it was once inseparable with, the Lindy Hop - the original swing dance that evolved in Harlem during the late 20's.
This occasion also celebrates the sixth anniversary of Yehoodi.com who for the past six years has dedicated its efforts to fostering the Lindy Hop community, online and offline. Come celebrate a century's worth of Swing, the music and the dance as we pay tribute to the people who made it happen.
