Ascension of the Blues - An American Musical Journey
Comes to Marin’s 142 Throckmorton Theater for Two Nights Only, April 3 and 4, 2009

Bay Area music critic, Paul Liberatore, declared, “Ascension of the Blues is a heart-stopping show that vibrated the sidewalk and made the sun come out on a rainy day." The Detroit Free Press called Ascension of the Blues “…provocative and original with a sexy soulful strut... This is one wild ride. Ascension lifted me off my seat."

And Ascension of the Blues is back in Marin for 2 nights only at Mill Valley’s historic and legendary 142 Throckmorton Theater, on April 3 and 4, 2009, at 8 p.m.

This marks the return of Ascension of the Blues to the 142 Throckmorton Theater since it last performed to sell out and standing ovation crowds in October 2007. This show is not to be missed as it is expected to sell-out again.

Ascension of the Blues is an exciting musical theatre experience that tells the tale of America's greatest contribution to the music scene. “The Blues had a baby and they called it Rock ‘n’ Roll.” Muddy Waters knew better than anyone that, woven into the fabric of American music and culture, the Blues gave rise to Gospel, Jazz and Folk, and ultimately collided with R&B, Soul, Hip Hop, Rap and Rock ‘n’ Roll.

Featuring over 30 songs that will rattle your bones, heart palpitatin' dance numbers, and captivating storytelling, Ascension of the Blues highlights the Blues as it’s never been done before. From the plantation fields of the south, where the Blues was born, to the glittering arenas of modern Rock ‘n’ Roll, Ascension of the Blues showcases a multi-talented cast of 23 singers, dancers and musicians, accompanied by one of the hottest bands musical theatre-goers will ever hear.

Ascension of the Blues stars Alvon Johnson, Larry Batiste, James Brooks, Mz. Dee, Sakai, Sounds of Rhythm, The Jimmy Dillon and Ozzie Ahlers' Band and the Ascension Horns, Samuka, Nathan Dias, and Kelli Hill.

In 1999, singer, songwriter and guitarist extraordinaire, Jimmy Dillon, sat down to write a musical telling the story of the evolution of American music—the result was Ascension of the Blues. On a sweltering summer night in July 2000, the first performance of Ascension of the Blues was presented on the altar of an old abandoned Baptist Church in South Haven, Michigan. Ascension of the Blues went on to play theaters in Grand Rapids, Ann Arbor, Kalamazoo, and Northern California - developing and fine-tuning both classic and original songs along the way. In 2009, the show continues to perform to standing ovations from capacity crowds at national venues.
