Arturo O'Farrill CD Release Party
Live Broadcast - April 16th at 4pm
You're invited to J&R Music World Jazz Store (at Park Row opp. City Hall Park), Saturday April 16 at 4p.m. for a CD Release Party with pianist Arturo O'Farrill and trumpeter Jim Seeley as they perform live to celebrate their latest CD -- The Jim Seeley/Arturo O'Farrill Quintet on the Zoho Music label (www.zohomusic.com).
Monifa Brown hosts the concert/interview and it will be broadcast live as part of her Saturday Afternoon Jazz program. (Tune in on the Internet at www.wbgo.org)
As a music performer, Jim Seeley is as wide open as his home state of Kansas. Collaborator Arturo O'Farrill says, “When you get a musician whose ears and mind are wide open and who knows how to play from his heart, a musician who truly forgets about time and space and declares the truth from his horn, now you're talking."
“Jimmy has become what all great musicians are," continues O'Farrill, “a conduit from the deepness of his soul, through the beauty of his thought and out the proper end of his horn, with great chops no less!"
With Jed Levy on flute and tenor sax, Andy Gonzalez on bass, Phoenix Rivera, drums, and Arturo O'Farrill himself, on piano, this is a high-flying ensemble. All the compositions are by Seeley who works with these same gentlemen in the Chico O'Farrill Afro Cuban Jazz Orchestra and Jazz at Lincoln Center's Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, both of them directed by Arturo O’Farrill. As Seeley puts it, “When a composer is fortunate enough to have first class musicians perform his material, and those musicians happen to be among his best friends...you know you just can’t go wrong." You can't go wrong tuning in to your Saturday afternoon live concert, April 16 at 4p.m. on Jazz88, either.
