The American Jazz Institute and Claremont McKenna College, located Claremont California, will bring together musicians who worked with the legendary Duke Ellington Orchestra to participate in a group oral history. Also, as a part of the reunion weekend, some of the participants will perform with The American Jazz Institute Big Band I a concert featuring Ellington's New Orleans Suite and the Ellington-Strayhorn masterpiece, The Queen's Suite.
The concert begins at 8:00 PM at 231 East 10th Street in Claremont on Saturday, February 7th. On Monday, February 9th, in the Marian Minor Cook Athenaeum, a jam session featuring Ellingtonians will start at 6:45 PM. The Athenaeum is located at 385 East 8th Street in Claremont.
Scheduled to attend are Louie Bellson, Art Baron, Butch Ballard, Buster Cooper, John Lamb, Barry Lee Hall, Jeff Castlema, Rocky White, Milt Grayson, Joya Sherrill, Vince Prudente, Trish Turner and Barbara Winfield. Other participants are being confirmed at this time.
