Alyn Shipton has won the award for 'Jazz Writer of the Year' for his New History of Jazz in the British Hamlet Jazz Awards. The prize was presented at the Pizza on the Park ceremony by Humphrey Lyttelton, who described the book as 'the definitive history of jazz'.
Alyn's book has also been nominated the in the 'Best Book About Jazz' category in the prestigious Jazz Journalists Association awards, which take place today in New York.
