For the amateur, jazz is a little like wine; intimidating and confusing when you're first introduced to it. All About Jazz is a great place to sample various artists and learn more about which style of jazz best suits your ears. It even has free daily mp3 downloads. Stop by the MP3 store of this site and you can sample most every jazz artist. I was once in Napa Valley, CA on a wine tour and the tour guide said, “There is no such thing as good wine or bad wine and don't let the wine snobs tell you differently. There is only wine that YOU like." Granted, this may have been because they were serving bad wine, but to me, it made sense.
