British salsa bandleader and pianist Alex Wilson will launch his new album Salsa Con Soul with a one-off show at Leeds University Union on 12 October. The album, recorded with a 12-piece band and guest vocalists Aquilla Fearon and Naomi Phillips, tips the hat to Stevie Wonder, the music of Cuba and Wilson's jazz background.
The live show will feature highlights from the new recording, along with the best of Wilson's back catalogue. The Leeds showcase is followed by performances at Birmingham Town Hall on Saturday 8 November, and London's Jazz Cafe on Friday 21 November.
As well as working extensively as a live musician, Wilson is currently special lecturer in music at the University of Nottingham, and is also preparing to teach a special autumn course at the Aldeburgh conservatoire established by composer Benjamin Britten.
