Piano Music 2 (2023) is Alessandro Sgobbio’s follow-up to his acclaimed Piano Music (2022). The Italian pianist and composer presents nine new intimate compositions, each of them dedicated to a person, place or topic that have a special meaning and importance to him.
The album is a meditative sound experience that invites the listeners to actively reconnect with the powerful meanings of natural and spiritual elements (“Modular Circles”, “The River”, “Tula”, ”Einhausung”), finding inspirations from special historical episodes of cities as Paris (“Îlot Chalon”) and Venice (“Fondamenta de la Tana”), two of Sgobbio’s most beloved places on earth. There are also some very special tributes: the opening track “Keys and Returns” is dedicated to journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, while the two versions of ”Asker” (which takes its name from the homonym Norwegian town) are dedicated to Sgobbio’s mentor, composer pianist Misha Alperin.
“I enjoy finding myself diving into these limitless soundscapes that can evolve in time, space, timbres – and still remain well rooted and related to the original intuition. I feel constantly invited to search for more creative ways to interact with my instrument(s) and also extend the possibilities of my piano playing.
