Fronting a band that also includes bassist Mark Egan and drummer Joe Ascione, the former Basie-ite and most versatile reed man finds in guitarist Vignola a most complementary partner with whom to share the joys of making solid, swinging jazz. They will premier their sparkling recording, 'Without A Doubt' on Wednesday, October 18 at Birdland, 315 West 44th Street. Shows are at 9:00 PM & 11:00 PM, 212-581-3080.

Frank Wess has been playing music for nearly all of his 78 years - from his celebrated stint with the Basie Orchestra (1953 - 1964) through work on television and Broadway to his current status as a legendary player in New York's repertory orchestras - and he can still seamlessly create the most vital and moving improvisations.

Frank Vignola is a guitar wizard who is steeped in wide and varied traditions - jazz, funk, Django, blues and more - and he always makes his incredibly technical prowess sound effortless. His embrace of the past has enabled him to meet and play with many of the music's masters. In addition to recording for Concord, Nagel-Heyer and more, Frank can also be heard on the Koch Jazz release 'Django Lives' by Hot Club USA (KOC-CD-7878)

It's no surprise that these two Franks have teamed up with a like-minded rhythm team. Ascione, a longtime compatriot of Vignola, is at home in all styles - from rocking and swinging a band to quietly accompanying a soloist. And Mark Egan, though he came to prominence in electric music and jazz/rock, proves that he's simply a master musician.

'Without A Doubt' (KOC-CD-7896) will be released on Koch Jazz on October 10, 2000.
