AEG Responds to Jackson Family Lawsuit...

AEG Live is now slamming a Jackson family lawsuit as both unsubstantiated and without merit. The suit, filed by MJ's mom Katherine Jackson, accuses AEG of creating the conditions that led to Michael's death. But AEG pointed out that Dr. Conrad Murray—now battling charges of involuntary manslaughter—was hired by Michael, not AEG, and the responsibility ended there.

Katherine alleges that AEG should have provided proper medical equipment and more closely monitored Murray, who is not named in the suit. “Dr. Murray was Michael's personal physician," an AEG offered in a statement. “Michael wanted him to go to London and asked AEG to pay for him as an expense of the tour. We would have preferred to hire a doctor in London, as it would have been more cost effective, but Michael insisted on Dr. Murray."

Sounds all-too-frivolous, though the Jackson legal team could be chasing some vulnerable prey. Since the death, Jackson has been treated like a demi-god, and largely portrayed as a victim of innumerable big pockets and public pressures. Whether that seeps into the courtroom remains unclear, though the Jackson estate is aggressively minting a small, post-mortem fortune.
