In January 2010, legendary singer-songwriter-performer, philanthropist and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Neil Young was honored as the MusiCares Person of the Year. The prestigious gala featured superstar artists like Dave Matthews, James Taylor, Elton John and Lady Antebellum among other notables paying tribute to the performer with inspired renditions of some of his most memorable songs. On May 31, 2011 Shout! Factory will release A MusiCares Tribute to Neil Young, a collection of these never-before-seen performances on DVD and Blu-ray. A must have for Neil Young fans as well music DVD collectors, A MusiCares Tribute to Neil Young will also debut on MTVs's HD channel Palladia on Memorial Day Weekend 2011.
Neil Young was recognized for his influential artistic accomplishments as well as his philanthropic work, which is as renowned as his musical legacy. He was one of the original founders of Farm Aid in 1985 and continues to be an active member on the organization's board of directors. Each October, he and his wife Pegi organize and host the Bridge School Concerts, a benefit for the Bridge School that he and Pegi helped found.
