The 2007 Rochester International Jazz Festival saw its attendance soar to 121,000, a 51% increase over attendance of 80,000 in 2006. This represents the largest single-year attendance jump in the Festival's history.
The Festival's sixth edition was held June 8-16, electrifying downtown Rochester's east end cultural district. More than 600 artists from 15 countries performed in 220 concerts.
It was a phenomenal week of great music, said festival producer and artistic director John Nugent. The addition of two new Club Pass venues plus the additional major City of Rochester outdoor stage for two nights on Alexander contributed to the huge increase. Most Club Pass shows were sold out and Eastman Theatre headliner show attendance was consistently strong throughout the week."
We are very pleased to be building such a loyal audience year after year and look forward to reaching out and welcoming more people in the coming years to introduce them to jazz in its many diverse forms," added Marc Iacona, the festival's executive director.
The Festival draws attendees from all over the country and world.
The Rochester International Jazz Festival was founded in 2002 and is one of nation's largest and fastest growing music festivals.
