Mike Chillingworth: Friday The Thirteenth

Read "Friday The Thirteenth" reviewed by Neil Duggan

London-based saxophonist and composer Mike Chillingworth is a frequent performer in many group formats in the UK and internationally. He has a distinctive and original style and is frequently found in the company of other like-minded musicians who like to expand boundaries and push through perceived barriers. The inspiration behind the album came in a strange way. Devoted educator Chillingworth was traveling with 50 teenagers on a multi- day bus tour (perhaps not an experience he would like ...

Empirical: Wonder Is The Beginning

Read "Wonder Is The Beginning" reviewed by Chris May

London's Empirical quartet, which first recorded in 2007 as a quintet, has had a steady lineup since 2009's sophomore album, Out 'n' In (Naim): Nathaniel Facey on alto saxophone, Lewis Wright on vibraphone, Tom Farmer on double bass and Shaney Forbes on drums. To be fair, ...

Sam Braysher Trio: Dance Little Lady, Dance Little Man

Read "Dance Little Lady, Dance Little Man" reviewed by Thomas Fletcher

It was back in 2017 when we were first introduced to Sam Braysher with his debut release Golden Earrings (Fresh Sound New Talent), performed alongside pianist, Michael Kanan and featuring a collection of reinterpreted songs from the Great American Songbook. Braysher is now following his own footsteps by releasing a trio album with a similar theme. The London-based alto saxophonist sees himself line up with Catalan percussionist Jorge Rossy, most recognisable for his spell with the Brad Mehldau ...
