The Milk
Celebrating a remarkable 25-year journey from Essex schoolmates to soul pioneers, The Milk are set to release their eagerly-awaited fourth album, Borderlands, on September 4th. Known for their cinematic blend of soul, jazz, and rock ‘n’ roll, and having earned accolades including BBC 6 Music’s Album of the Year, the band continues to evolve, drawing deep from personal triumphs and trials alike. Following three acclaimed studio albums and a live record that captures their magnetic stage presence, their music remains an authentic reflection of lifelong friends devoted entirely to their craft, with two more soulful singles still to come.
Emerging from Essex's commuter towns, The Milk—lifelong friends Rick Nunn (lead vocals, guitar), Mitch Ayling (drums), Luke Ayling (bass), and Dan Le Gresley (guitar)—have spent nearly three decades blending 60s soul with modern funk and jazz. Their debut, "Tales from the Thames Delta" (2012), broke into the UK Top 40 and earned them Apple iTunes Band of the Year. The follow-up, "Favourite Worry," showcased their evolution with lush arrangements, earning BBC 6 Music's Album of the Year in 2015. In 2020, they released "Cages."
Their forthcoming album, "Borderlands," reflects their resilience, promising soulful melodies and intricate rhythms. Over the years, The Milk have graced prestigious stages, including Glastonbury and the Isle of Wight Festival, and have sold out iconic venues like Shepherd's Bush Empire. Frontman Rick Nunn's vocal prowess, often likened to Steve Winwood, channels the soulful spirit of icons like Marvin Gaye and Bill Withers. As they approach the release of "Borderlands," The Milk continue to solidify their place as pioneers of cinematic soul, offering a sound that is both timeless and contemporary.
