Steven Baker

I am a graduate student at Brooklyn College working on my M.A. in Musicology. I studied Jazz Performance as an undergraduate at Hofstra University with Rick Stone. At the moment I am working on building a body of written work in eventual preparation for a Ph.D. in Musicology.

I fell in love with jazz after seeing my friend play guitar in our Middle School Jazz Band and from that moment on I didn't really have the same kind of interest in my first instrument, the viola. I am especially interested in Straight-Ahead jazz and Free-Jazz/Avant-Garde music. If you run into someone at a club in New York seemingly grilling the musicians about their careers or the past, it's probably me, and I'd be more than happy to talk with you to.
