Simon Forchhammer
Simon Forchhammer is a Danish drummer and composer renowned for his dynamic contributions to the European jazz and experimental music scenes. Based in Copenhagen, he is an integral member of several innovative ensembles, including Alawari, the Mia Dyberg Trio, the Red Gazelle Trio, and the Hein Westgaard Trio.
With Alawari, Forchhammer contributed to the debut album *Leviathan* (2024), which garnered critical acclaim for its intricate arrangements and emotional depth. The ensemble's compelling synthesis of jazz, classical, and folk idioms earned them the Danish Music Award Jazz for 'Newcomer of the Year' in 2022
In the Hein Westgaard Trio, Forchhammer collaborates with guitarist Hein Westgaard and bassist Petter Asbjørnsen. Their music blends free improvisation with elements of country, rock, folk, and classical genres, creating a unique and eclectic sound. Their album *First as Farce* (2023) exemplifies this fusion, blurring the lines between composition and improvisation
