Sam Gill

Sam Gill is a saxophonist & composer based in Sydney. His music explores the intersections of composed and improvised music, appearing in his own groups Coursed Waters & Scattered as well as the collectives Mind on Fire & Microfiche. He has also played with a number of Australia's most acclaimed improvisers including Simon Barker, Chris Hale, Andrea Keller, Steve Magnusson, Matt McMahon, Gian Slater & Clayton Thomas, as well as the Australian Art Orchestra and world-music ensemble Mara!

Sam has appeared on numerous records, including Mind on Fire's debut recording The Process of Unbecoming, self- released in December 2017, as well as Microfiche's self-titled 2016 debut. The Sam Gill Quartet's 2013 repertoire was documented in a recording entitled No Give, released in early 2014. He can also be heard on Okay by the Sydney Conservatorium Jazz Orchestra, released in early 2017 and recorded at Systems Two studio (NYC) at the conclusion of the group's USA tour with guest guitarist James Muller and guest composer Florian Ross.
