Rene Fontaine

Rene Fontaine is a Rhode Island native and accomplished electric and upright bassist who performs regularly with various jazz combos, big bands, theatre groups and classical orchestras. He is the leader of Swing City, a big band he co-founded with his late father and saxophonist, Dick Fontaine. Big band performances include The SOS Big Band, The Moonlighters, The Meadowlarks, Ron Stone and the Milestones, Point & Swing, The Compaq Big Band, Bare Bones Big Band and bands lead by Gerry Deragon, Dick Parent, Ed Rodriguez, Arthur Medeiros, and Frank Castle. Classical performances include the Great Woods Symphony Orchestra, Rhode Island College Orchestra, Fall River Symphony, Metropolitan Wind Symphony, Warwick Symphony, Ocean State Pops, Bel Canto Opera Company and The Norton Singers. Additional groups include The Dixie Kings, Firehouse Dixie, and St John Vianney music ministry. He was past president of the American Federation of Musicians Local 262, the Warwick Symphony Orchestra, and the Ocean State Pops. Rene plays a Karr model Upton Double Bass.
