Randy Hall

Randy Hall (born 1960, Chicago) is a guitarist, vocalist, composer and producer whose career bridges jazz, funk and R&B. He began on piano before switching to guitar at 13, studying with guitarist Peter Budd and later attending Berklee College of Music. Back in Chicago, Hall became part of the influential circle of musicians around drummer Vince Wilburn Jr., Miles Davis' nephew. Hall's group AL7 included Wilburn, keyboardist Robert Irving III and bassist Felton Crews.

Hall's connection with Miles Davis became particularly important in the early 1980s. He helped arrange and co-wrote material for Davis' The Man with the Horn (Sony, 1981), including its title track, on which Hall sang lead and played guitar, synthesizer and celeste. Davis' official site credits Hall as an arranger, composer, guitarist, synthesizer player and vocalist during 1980–81.

Hall subsequently pursued a solo career, releasing I Belong to You in 1984 and Love You Like a Stranger in 1988. He later continued working as a producer, songwriter and recording artist, with additional material appearing in the late 2010s and 2020s.
