Pony Boy All-Star Big Band

The Pony Boy All-Star Big Band 2024 is a conglomeration of the best professional musicians in the Pacific Northwest. Their newest release This Is Now (2024 Pony Boy Records) highlights new music arrangements and modern comostions, informed by their long-standing study of the jazz tradition. Previous recordings include Conversations & Deconstructions, and Plays the Music of Gaylord Jones. Led by drummer and arranger Greg Williamson, this collection of musicians is truly All-Star. The 16 members have recently updated their sound to newly written jazz orchestra pieces... from originals to compositions by Mordy Ferber and Tony Williams. Newer musicians hail from NTU with the newer harmonic algorhythms... veteran members played previously with The Glenn Miller Orchestra, Woody Herman’s Thundering Herd, Harry James Orchestra, Count Basie, Natalie Cole, Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, Diana Krall, Steve Allen, Ernestine Anderson... and have backed up Don Rickles and Joan Rivers. From New York to LA to around the world, the list goes on and on. They have pulled together an amazing library of arrangements dating back to the original swing hits of the 40’s - all the way up to today's large jazz ensemble orchestrations. As well as being an arranger himself, Williamson has led many smaller groupings, releasing CDs on his own label, Pony Boy Records, which serves as the moniker for this large swinging unit.
