Paul JB Lee

Paul JB Lee is a New York City and Seoul based guitarist, composer, and educator. Born in South Korea in 1993, he moved to Houston, TX, in 2004, where he began performing at age 14.

In 2011, Paul moved to New York City to attend The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, where he earned a BFA in Jazz Performance (2015), studying with world-renowned musicians such as Adam Rogers, Peter Bernstein, and Jonathan Kreisberg. He later pursued a Master of Music (2018) at NYU Steinhardt, where he studied intensively under Adam Rogers and served as an adjunct professor for three semesters.

Paul has shared the stage and recorded with jazz luminaries like Dave Holland, Alan Ferber, Randy Brecker, Alex Sipiagin, and Dave Glasser. In 2017, he was a semi-finalist at the Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition. He performed regularly at top NYC venues, including Blue Note, 55 Bar, Bar Next Door, and Minton's Playhouse. As a sideman, he contributed to SuKyung Kim’s "Lilac Hill" (2020), which was nominated for Best Jazz Album at the Korean Music Awards in 2021.

In 2020 Paul has returned and resumed his career in his home country of South Korea, preparing to release his debut album, recorded in 2018 with Lex Korten, Nathan Bellott, Daniel Durst, and Mark Ferber, set for release in February 2025.

Currently, Paul is performing and recording across Seoul and South Korea, while planning his return to the NYC jazz scene.
