Ottimo Massimo Grand Band

Ottimo Massimo is a dog, the dachshund to be more precise. It’s the dog of Cosimo Rondò di Piovasco, the Baron in the Trees by Italo Calvino. Between Cosimo and the dachshund there is a very special relationship, special as it is Ottimo Massimo, Andrea De Martini’s project, musician and composer from Sanremo, the city of Italo Calvino. Ottimo Massimo is a constantly changing idea, research and transformation of its own identity. A part of its personality is findable in “Tella Tingia Te”, recorded work of 2017, with the participation of guests such as Antonio Faraò, Luigi Di Nunzio and Giampaolo Casati. And it’s because of the help of Casati that Ottimo Massimo choses to explore a new dimension. The 17th of November 2018, after the La Gaude festival, Andrea ‘Dema’ De Martini is on the stage, dismantling his instrument, but the movements are very slow - and he has to hurry, because it’s time for another band after them - the eyes are lost, the mind is elsewhere, it’s clear. Giampaolo approaches him and asks “Ehi man…” no time to finish the phrase and Andrea “I wish I could listen to my songs played by a big orchestra. Giampaolo do you want to arrange them?”. That moment was the start of the OTTIMO MASSIMO GRAND BAND, an ensemble of 12 elements, guided by the trumpeter Giampaolo Casati, in the role of director, soloist and arranger. Giampaolo with his orchestrations gave a new face to the Ottimo Massimo’s songs, all signed by Andrea De Martini, deus ex machina of this project. The new project debuted in Sanremo, the 7th July of 2019, during the memorial of Dodo Goya, with Pietro Tonolo the saxophonist as guest. The 1st and 2nd February 2020 in Turin the Ottimo Massimo Grand Band recorded its first album that soon will be published, with the participation of Pietro Tonolo. Ottimo Massimo Grand Band will be at the Jazz Festival in Turin in 2021.
