Maartje Meijer
During her masters degree she took arranging lessons with Jörg Achim Keller (chief conductor and arranger with the NDR big band). This led to several arranging assignments for example for the Lajjazzo (LandesJugendOrchestra) conducted by Jiggs Whigham. Also she developed the skills to write counterpoint and modern fugue like compositions. She was invited to play these compositions at the prestigious NEU/NOW Festival in Estonia, Tallinn.
Maartje arranged for a.o. the Jazzorchestra of the Concertgebouw and composes and arranges for several choirs. As a musical director and arranger she works for the vocal sensation 'The New Amsterdam Voices' (who perform on Virgo as well). Her latest project is the 'church service for non believers' (initiated by Ricky Koole) for which she arranged the music.
Meijer performs in several bands. Next to her own trio (with Tobias Nijboer & Pascal Vermeer) she plays with the New Amsterdam Voices. Maartje plays in the jazz / flamenco sensation with Eric Vaarzon Morel & Jesse van Ruller. She performed a.o. at the Concertgebouw, Bimhuis (Amsterdam), Vredenburg (Utrecht), Lantaren Venster & de Rotterdamse Schouwburg (Rotterdam).
Maartje Meijer teaches at the Amsterdam Conservatory.
